The Let’s Talk About Type 1 Diabetes School Pack equips parents and teachers with the information you need to understand type 1 diabetes and support children in school and when visiting the homes of friends. It comes in hard copy format and e-download format and includes an A5 folder.

What’s included in the School Pack

• School Guide – Supporting people with type 1 diabetes in schools and educational settings

A 12-page guide including the facts about type 1 diabetes, symptoms of hypos and hypers and what to do if a child’s blood glucose levels get too high or too low, managing medication and further resources.

• Parents’ Guide – Helping you care for a child with type 1 diabetes

A 4-page guide including useful things to think about when inviting a child with type 1 round to play or for tea or a sleepover, plus type 1 diabetes facts.

• Hypo Procedure Guide

A handy 4-page guide for parents to complete with key information about their child’s type 1 diabetes before sharing with schools or friend’s parents. Includes a 9-step procedure for managing the hypo and when to seek medical attention.

• Student Hypo Card

A small concertina-shaped card for children to complete and carry with them. The card gives vital information such as where the child’s blood testing kit and emergency snack box is kept, signs of a hypo and emergency contacts.

• Assembly Plan

An A4 card with instructions and a script for acting out a short play designed to support teachers to help children learn about type 1 diabetes.
