TrialNet: recruiting participants for type 1 diabetes research

Dr Yuk-Fun Liu and the TrialNet team at the University of Bristol

Scientific title: UK TrialNet Clinical Center
Principal Investigator:
Dr Yuk-Fun Liu
Institution: University of Bristol
Project duration: 01/01/2020 – 31/12/2021

Objective: This funding is going towards the UK branch of TrialNet – a worldwide network of researchers looking to understand how type 1 diabetes develops, and how it could be prevented.

The researchers are looking for clues in blood samples from the relatives of people who already have type 1 diabetes. These people are at a higher risk of developing the condition.

For people whose blood tests show they’re likely to develop type 1, TrialNet also runs clinical trials of possible treatments. Last year, this research showed that it is possible to delay the onset of type 1 diabetes using an immunotherapy called teplizumab.

If you or your family would be interested in taking part, more information is available here, or on the TrialNet website.
