Stopping the killer immune cells getting to the pancreas – COMPLETED
Scientific title: Understanding T cell migration via inflamed endothelium in diabetes type 1
Principal Investigator: Dr Parth Narendran
Institution: University of Birmingham
Project Duration: 01/05/2013 – 30/04/2014
Objective: This team has previously identified a molecule called PEPITEM that can stop the cells in the immune system from entering the pancreas to attack beta cells. This project will look at whether this drug can prevent the onset of type 1 diabetes in mice by stopping the cells in the immune system from reaching the pancreas.
