Why do some people at risk of type 1 not develop the condition?
Scientific title: What protects islet autoantibody-positive T1D relatives who do not progress?
Principal Investigator: Dr Kathleen Gillespie
Institution: University of Bristol
Project duration: 01/05/2012 – 31/08/2017
Objective: People who test positive for the autoantibodies that cause type 1 diabetes are at a high risk of developing the condition in the future. However, some people develop it soon after testing positive, while others may not develop it for years, if at all. This project aims to investigate why some people who test positive for autoantibodies develop type 1 diabetes much more slowly than others, using data from close relatives of people with the condition.
