Project duration: 01/10/2011 – 30/09/2014

Objective: Most people with diabetes are able to recognise when their blood glucose level dips, but some people lose this ability over time. This is called hypoglycaemia unawareness.

This project is investigating whether hypoglycaemia unawareness develops because of changes in specialised brain cells that sense low glucose levels. It is also exploring the importance of a signalling molecule in the brain that is involved in regulating the body’s response to stress.
