Can we prevent heart and kidney complications in adolescents with drug therapy? (AdDIT) – COMPLETED
Scientific title: Adolescent type 1 Diabetes Intervention Trial (AdDIT)
Principal Investigator: Professor David Dunger
Institution: University of Cambridge
Project duration: 01/09/2007 – 28/02/2017
Objective: This clinical trial, known as AdDIT, is investigating treatments for those young people at high risk of developing kidney and heart disease as a complication of their type 1 diabetes. It seeks to find a way to prevent these complications using two existing drugs, ACE inhibitors (which lower blood pressure) and statins (which lower cholesterol levels). These drugs are commonly used to reduce the risk of complications in adults, but are not yet used in adolescents with type 1.
