Type 1 diabetes research and the EU
It is difficult at this time for anyone to draw any solid conclusion about the impact of staying in or leaving the EU on the UK’s research landscape
For those seeking more information on the role of EU funding on UK research, the Royal Society has produced a report ‘UK research and the European Union: the role of the EU in funding UK research’, and the Campaign for Science and Engineering has produced a report ‘The role of European Union membership in UK science and engineering research’.
The JDRF global network, which includes JDRF in the US, JDRF staff in France, JDRF UK and two other European affiliates, works within the European research funding strategy to support type 1 researchers in accessing funding.
Whether the UK votes to remain or leave, JDRF’s global network will continue to champion type 1 diabetes research and to seek to develop new funding programmes for type 1 diabetes researchers within and outside of the EU.
