JDRF’s Head of Community Engagement has called on the charity’s supporters to join him – in sharing the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on life affected by type 1 diabetes.
Dan Farrow is appealing for supporters to donate their time by sharing their experiences in a questionnaire that takes 20 minutes or less.
He said: “I have lived with type 1 diabetes for the last 16 years. Throughout my journey there have been ups and downs but the last 12 months in particular have had such an impact on everyone.
“Now there is light at the end of the tunnel and I am able to look back and reflect on some of the positives that have come from this surreal time. That includes the use of telemedicine and digital appointments, more flexibility when speaking with my diabetes team and also more time in general allowing me to focus on exercise and managing my type 1.
“It is so important that we as a community share our stories and experiences so that JDRF can understand what life is like for people affected by type 1. JDRF is unique in that a large proportion of staff members live with type 1 and are able to contribute directly. But today I am appealing to you to please help us to gain more of that valuable lived experience.”
Dan added: “This short survey will take just 20 minutes of your time and you will be contributing towards a better future for people with type 1.”
The information you share will help JDRF to:
- provide insights to policy makers and NHS clinicians on the real-life impact of treatments – allowing improvements to the care and services you receive
- provide you and others with the support and information you need
- contribute directly to helping us achieve our mission

The survey closes on Monday 22nd March.
Respondents may also be asked to take part in a 45-minute telephone interview or video call if they are available to do so.
