Teenager from Mansfield joins business dragons to say #CountMeIn for type 1 diabetes research

George, who lives with type 1 diabetes, was the star turn at a JDRF reception in the House of Lords on May 14. The event was staged to thank JDRF’s incredibly committed corporate supporters – our heroes from the boardrooms of the UK’s biggest businesses.
George was there to tell them about JDRF’s #CountMeIn campaign, which focuses on the need for greater financial backing for research to treat, prevent and cure type 1 diabetes.
#CountMeIn has already received the backing of thousands of families affected by the condition. Many MPs have also shown their support. JDRF is now asking sharp-suited senior-level professionals to say #CountMeIn – and leverage their employers to support the campaign on an organisational level.
Alongside George, the other speechmakers at the event were Lord Cope, JDRF Treasurer Mike Yardley, Falcon Private Wealth CEO Nick McCall, and Russell Prior who is Head of Philanthropy at HSBC Private Bank. Other organisations present included the Bank of England, UniCredit, Prudential, Liontrust Asset Management, Nuveen Investments, Ace Group, Linklaters, Ashurt, and AIG. The event was kindly sponsored by Blossom Healthcare.
Caroline Hellicar, JDRF’s Director of Fundraising, said: ‘Thank you so much to our friends from the business world who attended. Their ongoing support makes such a difference.’
She added: ‘A corporate partnership delivers many benefits for the company, from motivated staff to a customer base that can see you care for the wider community. But most importantly it gives the opportunity to be part of the journey to a cure for type 1 diabetes for the 400,000 people in the UK living with it.’
