Ways to get involved

There are several ways to get involved as a member of JDRF’s Insight and Experience Panel, depending on your interests. You can volunteer at a time that’s convenient to you, on a topic you are motivated by. You can get involved as little or as much as you like based on what interests you.

As a panel member you will have the opportunity to:

  • Review type 1 information and materials and help to create new support resources for the type 1 community and comment on the content of JDRF’s website.
  • Share your views and lived experience to help inform the work of JDRF, shape policy, and support scientific research.
  • Take part in market research which seeks information about the needs and preferences of people who live with type 1 diabetes or care for someone with type 1 diabetes. These opportunities are run by market research companies, not JDRF, and some market research projects will offer financial incentives to you.
  • Take part in the development and updating of JDRF principles, rules, and guidelines.
  • Offer advice to researchers, at any stage of a research project. Comments and contributions may be sought by the researchers in the early stages (before applying for funding), once the project is started, or later on to disseminate the results.

How it works

We will email you as opportunities of interest become available.

Some opportunities will be one-offs, taking a few minutes or hours to complete. Others will require longer-term commitment which may include attendance at several meetings over a period of time.

The level of commitment will be made clear for each opportunity, and you do not have to take part in every project.

Those shortlisted for the role will be invited for an informal discussion over the phone*. This will give you the opportunity to ask us any questions and give us the chance to find out more about you too. We want to make sure that this is the right role for you and that you’ll be happy contributing to JDRF’s work in this way.

*Please note that if you are under 18 years old, we will seek parental agreement and request that they attend the initial phone conversation.
