Our supporter promise

We are JDRF. We’re totally focused on type 1 diabetes. We’re for people with type 1, by people with type 1. And we only exist because of the amazing support of people like you.

We believe that when people come together for a common cause, amazing things can happen. Thanks to donations from people like yourself, we’re able to fund the best type 1 cure and treatment research, turn research into reality, and provide much needed support to everyone living with type 1 diabetes.

Over the past 50 years we’ve come a long way. Thanks to your support, the technology and treatments that we once dreamed of, are now finding their way into the hands of people who need them.

But there’s still a long way to go before the burden of type 1 is lifted from us. Working together, we will fund global research, push for swifter access to treatments and technology and support each other to get through the hard days, until type 1 is a thing of the past.

We really value your support, whether it’s through fundraising on behalf of the type 1 community, giving up your time, making a gift in your will or donating. We promise to treat you with respect and transparency. We value and respect the choice you have made in supporting us.

Our communications with you

We hope that you will want to hear about our work. We will keep you updated on our progress, so you know how your money is being spent.

We’ll make it clear and easy for you to choose how you hear from us. If you ask us not to contact you, we won’t contact you, unless it is a legal requirement.

You can change your mind about how we contact you at any time. If you would like to be contacted in a different way, or if you would like to opt out of communications, please call our supporter care team on 020 7713 2030 or email supportercare@jdrf.org.uk.

Our fundraising

Fundraising is a vital part of what we do. Without it, we will not cure type 1 diabetes. We are proud of what your support helps us achieve. We take fundraising, and our relationship with our supporters very seriously. Our fundraising will always be legal, open, honest and respectful.

We value every gift, large and small, and promise to put your money to work as quickly as possible. When we work with external suppliers, we make sure that they operate to the same high standards that we set ourselves, exceeding the requirements set out by regulatory bodies.

We will always take action if any external supplier acting on behalf of JDRF fails to meet our standards. We will make sure that the money we spend on fundraising pays for itself many times over, so we’ll raise more money to spend on type 1 research.

We are registered with the Fundraising Regulator, and adhere to all their standards for fundraising. Please do read about the regulator’s Fundraising Promise that we have signed up to as part of our registration. We are members of the Institute of Fundraising (IoF), and follow the IoF’s fundraising code of conduct.

We also fully comply with all relevant laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 and the Telephone Preference Service.

How we spend your money

We promise to be rigorous in our investment supporting and driving the best world-class research. We promise to provide information about our work, and our finances so you can see how your money is being spent and what an impact you are making, moving us closer to finding the cure for type 1.

If we make a mistake, we’ll listen and put it right.

We always strive to be the best that we can, but we recognise that no matter how hard we try, we don’t get it right all the time. We take all complaints incredibly seriously. If you would like to make a complaint, please see our complaints procedure on our Feedback policy page.

One day, we will create a world without type 1 diabetes. Until then, your support is vital for our world-class research, improving treatments until we find the cure.
