Organising your event takes some time and commitment. But here are some simple steps to help you through the process.
Step 1: Choose the right activity
If you haven’t already got an idea in mind, we have some ideas that could inspire you or make your own. Whatever you decide to do, we’ll be here to help you along the way!

Step 2: Get planning
Decide where your event can take place and what you’ll need to organise it. Think about getting help from friends, family, colleagues and local businesses. There are some safety and legal issues you’ll need to bear in mind.
Step 3: Promote and tell us about your event
Make sure you promote your event in plenty of time so you can raise as much money as possible. You can do this by posting it on your Facebook and Twitter accounts, try and get your event on local website listings and put up posters or give out flyers in the local area.

Step 4: Setting up an online fundraising page
One of the best ways to get your fundraising efforts up and running is by setting up a Justgiving or Virgin Money Giving fundraising page. Once you’ve set up your page you’ll get your own personalised link to send to all your family, friends and colleagues.
Here are some top tips to make your page stand out:
- Personalise your page with photos, your story and a target
- Email, text and share the link with everyone, everywhere, so they can all donate. Don’t be afraid to do it more than once, people usually need a nudge or two!
- Keep everyone updated with your progress by using your page as a blog. If you’re taking part in an event you can write about your training and add new photos. You can also link your page to your Twitter feed to automatically update the page.
All the money you raise online will automatically come through to us, so if you want to pay any money you raised offline on to your page you can do. Be careful not to Gift Aid your offline money.
Don’t forget to send us a quick email to let us know the amount you have raised offline and post us your sponsor forms so we can claim the Gift Aid on the money you raised offline.
Step 5: Send in your money
Thank you and congratulations for putting on a great event. Don’t forget to thank everyone who took part.
Please make the cheque payable to JDRF and include your address, phone number and email address and a note about how you raised the money. Otherwise we won’t know you’ve raised the money.
