Choose one of three Climb 1 for Type 1 night walk locations across England, Scotland and Wales.

On the same night on 22nd June, JDRF will be taking three separate teams up Scafell Pike (the tallest mountain in England), Ben Nevis (the tallest mountain in Scotland) and Snowdon (the tallest mountain in Wales). Together we will be completing the National Three Peaks, all to help create a world without type 1 diabetes.

Which mountain you decide to take on for this night time climb is completely up to you! They are all classic challenges, but with a twist. You’ll be taking on the iconic routes by moonlight, then watching the sunrise on one of the highest peaks in the UK, all while raising vital funds for type 1 research. This involves trekking under the canopy of a starlit sky, then experiencing the spectacular scenery at sunrise as you descend – while also enjoying breath-taking landscapes that open up before you as the day grows lighter!

Climb 1 for Type 1: Night walk – Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis (Gaelic translation ‘Mountain of Heaven’) is the highest point in Scotland and the British Isles. Standing at the lofty height of 1343m (roughly 40,00ft) it makes for a breathtaking night climb.

Climb 1 for Type 1: Night walk – Scafell Pike

A wonderful route climbing the highest mountain in England. The walk begins at Wasdale, an area steeped in mountaineering history, Some of the earliest rock climbs were recorded on some of the huge crags surrounding the head of this valley.

Location: Scafell Pike, Wasdale, Cumbria, CA20 1EX

Climb 1 for Type 1: Night walk – Snowdon

Snowdonia National Park in North Wales is synonymous with beautiful, rugged landscapes and wonderful trekking and outdoor pursuits. The highest mountain in Wales at 1085m, its Welsh name is Yr Wyddfa, reputedly the burial place of a mythical giant. A popular summit trek by day-time, it forms a real challenging night climb.

Location: Snowdon, Llanberis, Wales LL55 4NY

This is the perfect challenge for teams of friends, individuals, corporate groups and families (12+). As a bespoke JDRF event, everyone taking on the challenge will have a connection with the charity, so it will be a great place to meet others too.

The night time climb will test your physical limits, but your efforts will be rewarded by knowing that all your hard work is making a huge difference to the life of those living with type 1 diabetes.
