Organise your own fundraising activity and support type 1 diabetes research

fundraisingOrganising your own fundraising activity is a fantastic way of supporting JDRF. It allows you to be in complete control.  You can choose when, where, what and how.  And all you efforts will help fund vital research into type 1 diabetes.

You don't need to go it alone. Ask your friends, family and colleagues to get involved too to give you that extra support and make your events an amazing sucess. Plus JDRF will be with you every step of the way.

We have a handy fundraising guide that will help you organise your own event. For more information contact your fundraising team who will be happy to help.

Here are a few key points to get you started organising your own fundraising activity.

Choose your activity
What type of activity do you want or organise? How will it raise money? From auctions to zip wire slides, you can raise money by doing just about anything.  Take a look at our A-Z of fundraising ideas for a bit of inspiration.

Think about what you'll need to do
Once you've decided how you're going to raise money you can start to plan your fundraising activity. You'll have to think about where you're going to have it, any helpers you might need and any special equipment. Then you can start thinking about sponsorship from friends and family and from other contacts such as local businesses. Don't forget to create your own online fundraising page, it is a really quick and simple way for people to give.

We can provide you with information to help you plan your event if you get in touch with us. There are a few legal and safety issues you may need to think about, depending on what type of activity you're planning. There is some information here, but do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Promoting your event
Once you have a plan, you should let everyone know all about your fundraising activity. That will help you get the support you need to make your event a success. Make your own posters and flyers, use social networking sites and get in touch with local press. And don't forget to let us know what you're planning too.

After your event
Well done! Now that your event is over, all you need to do is to thank everyone who helped you to collect that all important cash and send in a cheque (made payable to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) along with a donation form to: JDRF, 19 Angel Gate, City Road, London, EC1V 2PT or your local office.

We love to know what our supporters do to raise money - so make sure you take loads of pictures and let us know how your event went. See what other people have been getting up to here.

Finally, sit back, relax and be extremely proud of what you have achieved. Your event and your money will make a big difference to thousands of people with type 1 diabetes.
